Dragons dogma 2 controversy over the DLC on steam ( and optimisation and denuvo )

Sooo it might be controversial but i think its kinda overblown. Particulary the DLC part.

For better or for worse capcom is doing this shit in nearly every one of their games so i kinda expected this shit . Also i actually like that this particular policy for one has blown in their face ( alghtough i fear the only lesson they will learn is that they shouldnt make big AAA games aimed for western audience ) even if its exagerated.

Denuvo. Denuvo is a cancer and im tempted to pirate and not buy the game just to say fuck you to Denuvo( it would actually be my first time pirating games if i ever did this ). In fact i kinda want to make a list similar to the sweet baby one named the games you should pirate.

Optimisation. It is poor apparently. Nothing new really as far as pc games go. Apparently cpu usage is quite big.Possibly due to Denuvo or it might be the usual case of rtx 4090 coupled with intel core i3 from 2013 , which is suprisingly common thing and pepole act outraged every time ot turns out their 10 year old cpu is too weak.

The DLC conversation is such a waste of energy. All the items for sale as DLC are available in-game for free (and it's not like they require a massive time investment to obtain or anything) with the exception of a camping kit cosmetic item. There's nothing predatory about them and they don't negatively impact the game in the slightest.

As for the optimisation: it's a massive fucking problem. The game lags like shit in the main city (15 - 25 fps compared to 60 fps outside the city) and I've experienced a bug several times where the game just drops to like 2-3 frames per second forever and the only way to fix it is to save and reload my game. They need to patch that shit, it's embarrassing.

so optimization is shit, denuvo is shit and the mtx are at least questionable but still the discussion is just “overblown” ? LoL…gamers these days.

And if we stop shitting on them for doing it, we let it become normalized.

Denuvo is a cancer

This pretty much sums up the topic.

It’s actually a lot worse than that. It’s been a while since I played something that had this level of problems. The fact that it’s CPU-based performance is actually the bigger issue because it doesn’t matter how beefy your graphics card is, you’re still dropping a ton of frames in that city specifically. I can run the game at 144 FPS until I go to that city, then it drops to 40, which is just outrageous. Gaming PC build logic has for a long time been to prioritize a great graphics card over a great processor (assuming you’re building with a budget and not a ‘money is no object’ type build), because that’s what matters for games, but suddenly with this one specific game, the processor is the bottleneck.

To add to that, the DLC thing really pisses me off particularly because I bought the game last night, and there was no DLC. The DLC didn’t show up until a few hours later, and by that point it was too late to refund it. Kind of felt like a bait and switch, because normally I wouldn’t buy a game at launch if they did that shit.

Yeah, I would still fight for a refund personally. Not trying to assume you have the time or energy to go after it, but I feel like this is extenuating circumstances

There was no mention of this in the reviews right? Feels like this was done deliberately so that it wouldn’t impact scores.

Yes, that’s a years-old tactic at this point. It was big in the loot box era.

Nosavingthrow,

Man, this shit is already normalized. MTX isn’t going anywhere. Zero complaints since horse armor have made a difference. At this point, the best I’m hoping for is not being reminded that there is MTX while playing the game.

caut_R,

CPU usage in Monster Hunter World is also quite high and installing the performance boost mod from Nexus doubled the FPS for me. I don‘t think I have a single Japanese PC game that doesn‘t have performance problems.

If you wanna pirate a Denuvo game, you better get comfortable cause those take a long, long while.

Ashtear,

All of Sega’s PC ports I’ve played have been excellent. Nihon Falcom has a top-tier studio handling their PC games as well.
