This map from Historic Environment Scotland gives you an idea of just quite how many important historic buildings there are in Glasgow.

Pink dots: C Listed Buildings; Blue dots: B Listed Buildings; Red dots: A Listed Buildings.

In my opinion, there are also other important building which are not yet listed so the actual number will be even greater than this map suggests.

Protecting all these buildings is a a mammoth task, and it's one that Glasgow City Council, the Scottish Government and the Westminster Government, regardless of their political persuasions, need to work together to achieve.

If they don't we risk losing way too many of these building and once a building is lost, you can never get it back. To lose a building forever is to lose part of our collective history and we are all worse off whenever this happens.

@thisismyglasgow I hadn't realised there is an official map like this. I wrote a query to map Category A buildings with / without images on Wikimedia Commons and try to remember to check it before visiting a town.

@AllyD I do have to say I wish they didn't use ArcGIS for the official map. It's got to be costing them a fortune for licences. Much better if they used an open source solution like QGIS.

@thisismyglasgow Mmm... Organisation often take the perceived Gold Standard product off the shelf without full regard that the "gold" is their own!

@AllyD Very well put! In my day job, I come across many organisations which find themselves ties into expensive licenced software products because they presumed they were the best and now cannot leave without losing access to all their data.

@thisismyglasgow I am no expert in mapping tools but what would be great is openness to federating to empower people enhancing new views of data.
Inspired by your posts and photos, here's a wee view of what has on Cat. A by architect.

@AllyD That's really good! It's great to see if broken down my architect and really helps show that Glasgow is a lot more than just Alexander 'Greek' Thomson and Charles Rennie MacKintosh.
