🥾so yeah, wanted a pile of miles so I went out back on the CRHT traversing Joshua Tree NP twice.
Started 10:30 pm Friday at North Entrance, jogged westbound 18 miles overnight till 3:30 am. The near full moon lit the trail and I didn’t need headlamp. Bivied in the backcountry outside Ryan camp, got up, grabbed my water cache (and bonus soda) and was back on trail by 7:30 am.
Trail napped several times Saturday while progressing 40 miles to Black Rock camp on the west end and back to Ryan camp by 10:30 pm. A wind storm was now in full effect and most everyone had abandoned the campground. The backcountry area outside the camp that I was permitted for doesn’t have anything more than small bushes for cover so I bivied under a leaning rock in an empty pay camp site.
Sunday, grabbed my cache and was out of Ryan by 7:00 am getting 10 by 10. I jogged and hiked the 18 miles back to the north entrance with a couple trail naps on the way.
Variety of sleep and nap stops going out and back.
Nice bivy spot for a couple hours pre dawn Saturday. Long nap in the grass Saturday afternoon watching clouds. Long bivy under a rock out of the wind storm Saturday night. Long dirt nap Sunday aft reclining on a sun warmed rock.
