Hiking

Breaking up the day with a bit of a hike and lunch outdoors.

A bowl of ramen I think today. A bit windy, but a good test of the spirit stove.

A bit of urban river shoreline just a little off the beaten path.

A stark view across the water of a wide river. A distant shoreline is a thin line

@ottaross "oh spirits, please enter my stove and cook my lunch, I would be so worshipful"

spooky whooshing sounds

It was green and lush from yesterday’s rain, a little soon for mushrooms to really start showing up but there were more than expected.

@hikingdude yeah, I noticed, that we weren't that far from each other 😁
Was the first time in this group for me as well, but well worth it, nice views, a lot of chamois. Really can recommend it!
And you might also enjoy the Jägerstieg I took on the way back, lots of water, waterfalls, lush green, definitely some photo opportunities.

Ranger Sarah has arrived at Petroglyph National Monument. She is excited to get to explore the park and see some of its many petroglyphs.

Ranger Sarah spots the first set of Petroglyphs. These where made between 400-700 years ago. Stone chisels and hammerstones were used to chip away the desert varnish on the rock to expose the lighter color underneath.

Ranger Sarah learns the area is home to the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake (Crotalus Atrox). It is cold and wet out so Ranger Sarah hopes she won't be running into any.

Also a kind of #Chicken, just a little different. More like a rooster. 🍺🤣

Also from my last #Hiking tour.

@mina Kein Bieraroma. Das War aber aufgrund der Konstruktion zu erwarten. Aber sonst sehr lecker, sehr zart und nicht trocken. 👍

@paulfoerster

Das ist ja auch der Zweck des Bieres: Die Säure bricht die harten Fasern und der Dampf gibt Feuchtigkeit und sorgt für schonendes Garen.

Für richtiges Bieraroma muss man schon mit damit marinieren.

I’ve been a few days ago. Here are some impressions, not all from the same tour, but anyway. 🤣

Another hiking trail in the woods.
Leaving the woods, the hiking trail now leads alongside the hill.

Avalanche Peak part three: the way down. Quite cruisy through Scott's track, watching this crazy Devils Punchbowl waterfall that was definitively worth a peek, despites the extra hiking time at the end of the walk. Absolutely mesmerising, one of the most beautiful waterfall I saw in Aotearoa.
