I love Mastodon but I do wish there were more active peeps here. Other sites seem so transactional. People want to friend me so they can tag me to advertise their own sites, or they want to know how I got ARCs and I tell them and then never hear from them again, Or they just want to complain about other book reviewers or publishers. Anyway if you see this it's probably because you are an awesome person! We need more awesome people here. @horror
@Well_Worth_A_Read@horror I get more interaction re: books & horror on BlueSky but I follow a lot of authors and readers on there, and there's a large horror community.
I think it depends on who's on the platforms. I hate the transactional & angry nature of Twitter- and the entire vibe of IG/FB- most people are on those (or Threads or TikTok, which I refuse to use.)
This place is fun, and I love the interactions I DO get, I just wish more people were here.
@stina_marie@horror I just made a bluesky account but none of the interests listed were horror so I'm lost and not following anyone. It suggested I should follow weird Al Yankovic 🤔 😕
and check my follows. I also have a list of all the indie horror publishers that don't use AI that I can send you so you'll have a fee, just of their posts. :)
@stina_marie@horror I'm not on BlueSky and I deleted my twitter. All I see on Threads are complaints and whining so I don't use it. People on Instagram are so full of "follow trains" all they care about are followers and not genuine conversation. I hate when people follow just to unfollow. I am too old to TIK and I refuse to Tok LOL If I made reels or watched reels all day I'd never have time to read or watch horror.
@stina_marie@Well_Worth_A_Read@horror unfortunately there was a negative experience to a lot of the horror folks when they came over during one of the twitter migrations. most of them have written off the fediverse because of it.
@jake@horror@stina_marie I did not know that. But I came here later than everyone else. I was afraid to delete my Twittter at first because I thought I would not get offered ARCs anymore if I didn't have a big following.
@jake@horror@Well_Worth_A_Read What was the negative reaction?! I was over on Twitter and here for a few of the migrations and never caught wind of this.
@stina_marie@horror@Well_Worth_A_Read things like pushback on promoting their work, or things like alt text. angry folks explaining how things were here and how they were not twitter to the new people trying to find a new home.
i get some of it, as the Fediverse was being overwhelmed with Twitter folks and pushing back on that, but they pushed too hard and a lot of folks decided that's what this place was and left.

I agree, but also... I've been on the fringes most of my life and I see Mastodon as the social media site for people sick of social media. Cheers 🍻
