how do I follow a community on another server? I'd like to follow washingtondc@lemmit.online I've tried putting it in the search box and searching the magazines page
I did not notice you were looking for lemmit.online, maybe kbin.social has blocked it? I could not search for it on kbin.sh either and I have no clue as to whether users can list blocked instances.
You go up to the magnifying glass icon on the instance that you want to subscribe on (not the instance that the magazine or community actually belongs to), then that's where you'd search washingtondc@lemmit.online
It should appear and you should be able to follow it. If you are the first person to look up that magazine on your instance it may say that there are zero posts and that the owner of the magazine is your instance's admin, but as long as the name and the magazine/community icon looks like you're expecting you can follow it and it'll start federating in new posts over time.
Thanks for the pictures. You seem to have added another @ to the front of the magazine name. Try it without that one, just "washingtondc@lemmit.online". That should work instead. Unless you already tried that way.
I see now that another commenter said to add that, but I've never done that and I'm subbed to tons of magazines from outside instances or even Lemmy (I'm on Kbin)
