CEO Steve Huffman says tech giants should not be able to trawl Reddit’s huge store of data for free. But that information came from users, not the company...

I'm 32, I remember using the internet before google was a thing, discovering flashy websites, hanging out on all kinds of internet forums and chatrooms, ebaums world, MySpace, new grounds... I rember when YouTube was just starting off and it was exploding with all kinds of content....

While I was asleep, apparently the site was hacked. Luckily, (big) part of the lemmy.world team is in US, and some early birds in EU also helped mitigate this....

Is there a list of subs that moved/duplicated the sub to Lemmy/Kbin/similar and run by the same mods?...

EDIT - the dev i forked it from added a lemmy option and is absolutely smashing it on the dev front, definitely recommend to use theirs!!...

Not sure what's happening with the ranking algorithm, but it seems like the default main page is still displaying the same set of popular posts from a few days ago....

I've noticed that most communities mainly show day-old posts with default sorting. Sorting by New or Hot helps with seeing newer posts. Kinda obvious, but I sure didn't realize until trying it out 😅

This will be a quick post. We have received a phishing mail to our info@lemmy.world mail address telling that they are “lemmy.world Security Team”, telling that they will “disconnect” your account from our instance. This is ofc, not us. Do not fall for it! The attached image is how the mail looks like....
