hoshikarakitaridia,

Idk I like it.

Does not belong in this community though so OP please delete and post it in One of the AI communities.

hoshikarakitaridia,

Interesting observation. I really wish anything we see could be trusted regarding the war rn, but fog of war is one hell of a thing. Let’s hope we will see everything that propaganda has pushed after the war is over.

hoshikarakitaridia,

Interesting

Why the hell washe not awarded his whole fees? Maybe the jury didn’t think he’d been spending that much money? Well what an annoying outcome.

hoshikarakitaridia,

Yeah you never know what their research looked like. Maybe they checked and got a whole bench of oil execs in there.

Sounds like they knew what they were doing.

hoshikarakitaridia,

I mean I know why ppl are scared it will kill off the fediverse, but the only thing that can kill off the fediverse is the Devs. As long as they don’t sell it or start involving a bigger company in the development, we are fine. And pull requests are transparent and therefore not a thread with enough common sense.

I see the risk but I don’t think it’s that imminent.

hoshikarakitaridia,

Mmm yes, let the snake oil flow through you.

They’d do better finally fixing teams. We’re talking years after release, and there’s still no option to change my status behaviour. It forces DnD when I get called, it puts me afk after only 5min, …

Their software does not fundamentally work very well. So even if this bs would be talking about an actual feature, that’s some stone age project management right there.

Well, had my content curated on Reddit and despised the recommendation stuff on the official app (that I never used lul). But now that I'm on a new platform, I want to have recommendations lol. The Random stuff on the sidebar's pretty neat, could've sworn Reddit has similar like 10 years ago.

hoshikarakitaridia,

I feel you, it’s a bit chaotic in here for now.

That said, Lemmy is open source and that means if you really want something to change you can literally write the code yourself and make a pull request, and because we don’t have to appeal to anyone except the users, all options are on the table.

hoshikarakitaridia,

Man there’s literally only one thing stopping me from using mastodon and that’s likes.

I know marketing, and shit, and likes sometimes skew things, but without likes any toot is given the same weight, no matter if it’s a good or bad toot. There’s no way for me to see through the chaos that emerges from this.

I know there are reasons not to do this, but I damn well know I’m not the only one, and I’m sure it would make it more appealing for a lot of ppl unfamiliar with mastodon. You could even make it optional so ppl can turn it off and there would be no harm done.

What are your thoughts on being called Lemmings if this platform becomes a staple?

Curious to know, I’d heard “lemming” used in a semi derogatory way, since “a person who unthinkingly joins a mass movement, especially a headlong rush to destruction” is the dictionary definition. It seems to be the first thing to come to mind as to what you’d call a Lemmy user....

hoshikarakitaridia,

That’s one of the things that this platform’s name is appearently based on. Just FYI; so you and the main developer have something in common :)

hoshikarakitaridia,

Development issues

They enabled it, it was broken and the implementation sucked, so they removed it again. But hey if you are pissed about it, feel free to help - you can fork the GitHub project and then fix it yourself :)

Also remember everyone working on it is volunteering. Cut them some slack, all of them have normal jobs as well.

hoshikarakitaridia,

There are a lot of reasons for this general trend, but let me add my two cents to make a case for the sudden influx of user-opposed changes:

I don’t have a source for this, but I remember that Linus spoke about this on the LTT WAN-Show. Basically, abunch of big silicon valley investors are pulling out of all of the big platforms, therefore leaving them with a huge hole in their profitability. This means, that right now a lot of them are scrambling to scrape together more money over time, so all of those platforms are sustainable.

Obviously this has to observed in conjunction with all of those are trends that are already mentioned by other comments, but this gives more basis as to why now, and why to this extent.

If someone else knows what I’m talking about please add quotes and sources because I don’t like the good old ‘dude trust me’ guarantee one bit.

hoshikarakitaridia, (edited )

If the browser version works for you, that’s perfect. There’s no need to test out all the apps that are currently flying around.

To be honest from what you said I would advise against checking out the apps right now because all of them lack some features and will have some annoying bugs.

There’s a few apps on the way that promise to be really good, but that’s still a long way from stable release. If you wanna use them when they are useable, you should check the apps out at the end of the year, because that’s when a few more major things are figured out and the apps will be far more stable.

So why are ppl talking about the apps so much? All personal preference. Some are only using lemmy on their phones and with that in mind it’s important to know how to do that. But if that doesn’t phase you, that’s totally fine.

Hope you’re enjoying your time and happy lurking :)

Edit: I hate grammar

hoshikarakitaridia,

Omg that was the Reddit client I used

All my dreams are coming true. This was worth seeing Reddit crash and burn. Yes. I like this new age.

hoshikarakitaridia,

wtf

isn’t that censorship and therefore not conforming with EU laws? I might be wrong here but I just can’t see this having a solid legal basis.

BobQuasit, to technology

Is Jerboa for Lemmy crashing for anyone else?

I've been using Jerboa for Lemmy for my Beehaw account since the Migration. At first it worked fine. Then I started getting an error message about the version of Lemmy being used on the instance. But for the last couple of days it has been crashing immediately on opening:

Jerboa Error Message

Is anyone else having this problem? Can anyone recommend an alternative app?

Thanks!

hoshikarakitaridia,

Switched to listoff which also didn’t work for some reason, then to connect. I also tried thunder, which works as well.

Brave aims to curb practice of websites that port scan visitors (arstechnica.com)

Starting in version 1.54, [the browser] Brave will automatically block website port scanning, a practice that a surprisingly large number of sites were found engaging in a few years ago. According to this list compiled in 2021 by a researcher who goes by the handle G666g1e, 744 websites scanned visitors’ ports, most or all...

hoshikarakitaridia,

I don’t actually know what bad actors can do.

Well, you’re not gonna like this but every pentesting / vulnerability scan starts with a port scan. It’s really there to probe a PC for anything interesting. Although it’s not strictly illegal because you’re just kindly asking a PC to handover any meta information on what is currently running on the PC exposed to the internet, the trajectory is clear and in the contrast the goal is opaque which makes it shady af.

Warframe needs to replace recruiting chat with an LFG system

Something I realized while doing radshares, Warframe needs to replace the recruiting chat with an actual LFG system. I’ve been playing Warframe for about 10 years now, and the recruiting chat literally has not changed since release. It’s still extremely basic and simple....

hoshikarakitaridia,

really good idea.

maybe you should pitch this on the forums or something…

ngl I have a feeling the Devs will probably not listen to your feedback even though it’s really valuable, because DE already announced they started work on a different game and I would bet a lot of money that’s basically all of their priority right now. that said, it’s always worth a try.

hoshikarakitaridia,

it’s basically a non-exhaustive list for iOS clients. Notice that a lot them are still in development or currently MIA because they are unresponsive for a while now. It kind of annoys me that the android landscape is a bit stifled in comparison, as 50% of the aps just straight up didn work for me.

but very happy that we have so many apps and developers in general, that’s what makes this community special and that’s what will be Reddit’s downfall and our triumph over 90% of other social media.

hoshikarakitaridia,

“I’m just playin witchu” russian Eminem moment right there.

hoshikarakitaridia,

unfortunately liftoff is not at all working for me currently.

I logged in and now my subscribed community posts are just empty, which is the whole point.

I do wanna see where they go tho.

hoshikarakitaridia,

and it is those mythical lizards with just above average intelligence that we need to fear.

hoshikarakitaridia,

...and this is why you don't betray the mercenaries you hire.

hoshikarakitaridia,

Definitely should put that on the git issues with log files and stuff.
