This morning, Logitech announced their new webcam that has a Micro Four Thirds lens mount (the Mevo Core). I was really excited about this until I saw the page on Amazon mention that it is rechargeable (without listing any other specific details about the battery).

It turns out that it has a sealed in battery that isn't removable/replaceable. So once the battery stops holding a charge after a couple of years, the entire device will become e-waste. So disappointing.

So I left a similar comment on PetaPixel's article about the Mevo Core, and someone from the Mevo team replied to clarify that the battery actually IS user-replaceable! Wow, so happy to be wrong about this!

@mntyfrsh @lewgrant oh that's much better to hear.
I was actively scoping the yongnuo JUST because they listed a removable battery.

@mntyfrsh I'm so disappointed to see that. I was really interested in this little box camera.

@SomeGadgetGuy Same here... I had always wished for a webcam that was essentially a box with a lens and USB connection, and this appeared to be just that (and then some). I guess I'll just have to settle for something like a Lumix G100 with a dummy battery instead.

@mntyfrsh That's what I use for my livestreams. A G85 with an AC adapter.
Probably pretty easy to find a comparable priced (or cheaper) older Lumix or Oly.

@SomeGadgetGuy Oh nice! Do you use the Lumix webcam software, or do you use a capture card? And have you experienced any overheating at all?

@mntyfrsh Oh no. The Lumix software was turning out mediocre 720p video with my G9. I'm not sure if it ever worked with the G85.
YEARS ago I overspent on an AJA UTAP, but these days a good streamer USB card should do you fine. At least better than the Lumix software.
