Pacman Behavior

Background: fresh install, already dealt with key rings and related.

I am presently running ‘pamac install base-devel’ as a best practice (IMHO) prior to running ‘pacman -Syu’.

As ever on a fresh box, both sets of pkgs are fairly large.

Normally I’d just give this a shot on a burner but…. Don’t happen to have one available at the moment, so…

Anyone have success concurrently running pamac/pacman in one term window for a long running download, and in another term grabbing the pkgs needed for -Syu by adding ‘w’ for download only?

Would be nice to be able to stack them that way, and likely save some time versus running serially.

But my expectation is that libalpm (backend for both implementations iirc) will expect the lock file not to be present already, even for download only.

If I have to try it later on a smaller pkg set that’s fine, and I will update accordingly once k know.

Searches of the internet on general and the usual forums were unhelpful, as was the man page for pacman.

iamnotacat,

Welp, that’s interesting.

Last night, without -w, both terminals tried to complete the requested tasks.

But -Syw immediately fails since it can’t lock the db. That’s basically the expected behavior in any other ecosystem, but…

In this world, I try hard not to make too many assumptions about behavior of tools or programs.
