Conyak, in Well shot, but horrible movies?

This one I think is a bit divisive but that is how I felt about The Last Jedi. It was a beautifully shot move that was not a good movie. Maybe not terrible but not good.

MrMusAddict,

Ironically, I think it’s my favorite out of the new trilogy in hindsight. Still bad, but my favorite.

  • E7: a fan servicey remake of E4
  • E8: something completely new/different, but unfitting
  • E9: distilled incoherence
Conyak,

I would probably agree with you if you could cut out the entire sub plot with Finn and Rose visiting that planet. It was so pointless.

johnthedoe, in Banshees of Inisherin

Really liked this movies. Such interesting and fleshed out characters. Love the contrast of misery on such an amazing looking scenery.

Found it so bizarre wanting to keep someone away so badly so you can play music that you’d make it so you can never play again. It reminds me of this idea that animals kept in a zoo in really bad condition they might resort to tearing their own fur or chewing on their tail or something. The setting lends itself to the misery and the dullness in their lives.

How truly scary is this movie? It has been on my watch list for a long time, but I haven’t had the guts to watch it.

Jon-H558, in There’s no way Beyond the Spider-Verse is coming out in 2024

This is a real shame as I initially thought that...then people got my hopes up with talk of march and then do lot of work simultaneously....then dashed again.

Seen articles today also that they pushed animators really hard so they may play into this article

Best horror movie of the past decade IMO.

this movie surprised me in many ways. i initially thought it’d be one of those generic paranormal movies but nope!

Hamon_Rye, in Hereditary (2018) Discussion Thread

Such a great movie.

Toni Collette put forward one of the strongest performances by anyone in anything ever and while awards are ultimately meaningless, deep down in the secret place in my heart that does care about them I am still mad pissed she didn't get nominated for an Academy Award for what she did here.

MarcellusDrum,

Yeah I agree. Her face expressions alone are award-winning worthy.

MarcellusDrum, in Hereditary (2018) Discussion Thread

I’m a fan of horror in general, but I don’t have a lot of time to watch movies, so when I do, I get really picky about what to watch. So let me tell you, Hereditary did NOT dissapoint. Probably my faviorate horror movie.

I watched it with a couple of friends after midnight. We joked throughout the movie, and it still made us feel nervous. The acting, the sound/music, and the unexpected story line are all perfect. The casual grandma “ghost” at the start sets it up to be a generic ghost haunting story, which made the actual storyline of demons/cult more impressive. Not sure if that was the reason for the scene, because it was genuis.

The scene where Annie is standing on the wall in the background, and hitting the attic door with her head made me shit bricks.

The ending was a bit confusing at first (calling Peter Charlie for example), but after reading some explanations online, I think its a great ending.

Also the amount of small details is mindboggling. Seeing the chuclkboard being purchased by Joanne for example. Makes rewatching the movie a must.

Amazing movie overall.

Moghul, in What do you think of The Matrix: Resurrections?

If you didn't wait as long as everyone else to see it it's not going to hit the same. The movie is a parody on its own creation and specifically talks shit about the very people who demanded it be made.

analisys, in What do you think of The Matrix: Resurrections?

I liked it as send-off to fans kind of movie with a lot of 4 wall references.

I thought it was a hilarious, satirical “screw you” to the studio for forcing them to make another sequel (and a commentary on the general theme of milking old franchises past their prime), and it I loved it for making fun of itself. I laughed through the whole thing.

I actually thought the newest matrix was a pretty fun romp. Not the best of the series - but others who shit on it like they do are being too harsh (in my opinion, art being subjective and all). I actually thought the way they came back to the matrix was pretty fun.

To be fair to the other fans who hated this one, I wasn’t super invested in the older movies so some of the other complaints never bothered me too much.

I think Matrix Resurrections is a parody. It's a funny movie, has a good dose of action. Of course, don't expect a movie like the first one but you can have a fun time watching it

UrbenLegend, in What do you think of The Matrix: Resurrections?

Speaking as a fan of the first 3 movies, Resurrections is just awful. Plot is meh at best, character dialog sounds more like a parody and doesn’t have the gravitas of the previous movies. Some of the returning characters are in such a weird position story-wise it feels like they were just treated as throwaway side characters. Once you watch it, you’ll know exactly who I am talking about.

Action is poorly designed and choreographed. There’s no iconic setpiece on the level of the lobby scene, the dojo, the chateau, or even the battle for Zion.

Overall, it feels like a reboot or remake by someone who doesn’t understand what made the old movies great, which is strange considering how the Wachowski’s were still at the helm. Basically, Resurrections is “The Hobbit” of the Matrix triology. You’re excited for it because it’s done by the same people, you’re starving for more of that world, but it ultimately falls short.

koberulz,

Only one Wachowski was involved.

dacheese, in What do you think of The Matrix: Resurrections?

To me it was bad and I wanted so much to like it. I can't get into why without spoilers, but it just had poor writing and fell short imo. I even liked the entire original trilogy more than others tended to past the first one. It was kind of like bad fanfiction but the boring kind of bad not the hilarious kind.
