I feel bad for the employees who have to clean that mess.

especially because 1) it will be trashed again in 30 minutes, and 2) they get paid crap

[ COMMUNITY UPDATE ] - An update on discussing piracy in this community - 2023-08-20 (lemmy.ml)

Since this post was made last week, we’ve gotten a lot of feedback regarding the new policy, and it’s understandable that many of you are unhappy with the restriction. It makes it difficult to discuss how to effectively set up a full Plex server stack which includes a VPN and torrent solution which feed into Sonarr / Radarr...

Plex access and reads files like any other app would. If your, say, file browser can see/read the files, Plex can. So, if your encrypted drive is mounted and accessible to the rest of the system, Plex will be able to access it just fine.

I’d have loved to go all 4k myself, but I just don’t have the storage capacity for it atm. plus, even with my 4K tv, I just don’t see such a huge difference between 4K and 1080. I have a small apt so I don’t have a huge tv. if I did, I’d notice I more, I guess ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I’m still rocking a 2011 iMac for my server a a ghastly 350W. I hate it. it’s slow af, but kills it for my needs, which will hopefully last until I can afford to replace it. it’s been my server for the last 12 years… I ran a - get this - a Pentium 4 4GHz before that as my Plex server!

I remember the summer of ’90 waiting for the conclusion of BoBW seemed like forever!

solidarity to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikers, but I’m sad we’ll have to wait so long :(

It’s really great that they’re working to get the actors their fair share of those streaming residuals.

Have you seen how little they get from Netflix, et al? It’s horrible!

BrooklynMan,
@BrooklynMan@lemmy.ml avatar

man, I hope this becomes available somewhere, soon.

I agree that this era of Trek is getting overworn, and I’m very ready to focus on another time period with new and different characters. A break will be nice, at last.

I agree with a lot of this. I strongly disliked SNW in the beginning, but it stated to get closer to the TOS “feel”, and that was an improvement. But where they do lots of character work, they do too much, to the point where the stories lack depth. I mean… this is a sci-fi show, but the writers seem to want to make a dramedy set on a starship, and that’s not Trek to me. I want to see the science and tens solving problems together with science! not shooting everything or spending almost the entire episodes between flashbacks and the present, where every. single. thing. is all about working out some personal or interpersonal drama.

out of all of the SNW episodes, maybe 1/4 were actually about exploring space and Trek stuff. the rest are all character drama that’s really exhausting to watch.

S02 found a better balance and helped by making all that drama more “fun”, but the Trek part of the show shouldn’t just be a backdrop or pretext for the characters’ personal drama. I want good sci-fi stories, not convenient setups for will-they-or-won’t-they or having every other episode about dealing with someone’s PTSD. when DS9 did it, they sed a lighter touch so those moments were meaningful. with SNW, it’s everything, and loses meaning.

it was never about the abortions.

as always, the cruelty was the point.

BrooklynMan,

setting up the whole coin system would create server costs. you can already donate.

BrooklynMan,
@BrooklynMan@lemmy.ml avatar

well, I appreciate that ❤️

PRECIOUS!

BrooklynMan,
@BrooklynMan@lemmy.ml avatar

BrooklynMan,

[ COMMUNITY UPDATE ] - A Note on piracy and Lemmy.world's decision to ban piracy communities - 2023-08-14 (lemmy.ml)

As you may know, Lemmy.world has decided to ban any communities that deal with the subjects of piracy. Considering that this sub might be considered piracy-adjacent, I’d like to make it clear that discussing the subject directly is not allowed, nor is requesting/offering Plex shares in posts or comments....

BrooklynMan, (edited )
@BrooklynMan@lemmy.ml avatar

uninformed opinion or not, I’d like to play it safe and ensure this community stays open and viewable to as many people as possible. I know the Plex subreddit ran into issues in the past, and I’d like to avoid them.

please follow the rules and keep in mind that this sub is of discussing Plex and its addons, not piracy. there are other places for that.

EDIT: it should be noted that discussions that may involve piracy ARE PERMITTED (as it pertains to Plex and its add-ons) in our Matrix community chats (linked above and in the sidebar), as they’re not Lemmy-related and aren’t going to get this community in trouble here. However, all other rules still apply.

free speech is never guaranteed on private platforms, and it’s explicitly not permitted in moderated communities. you even had to agree to a code of conduct which limits your speech when you created you account. if you came here expecting that, you came to the wrong place.

your participation here is a privilege conditional on your adherence to a social contract which, if you violate, will be revoked. keep that in mind. your freedom is to follow the rules or exercise your freedoms elsewhere.

you’re perfectly free to discuss that elsewhere (well, in most places, that is).

in this community we discuss how to install, configure, troubleshoot, etc. Plex and plex add-ons as well as features and so on.

Where or how you acquire your content (with the exception of Plex streaming content) is irrelevant and not an appropriate subject for conversation here if it involves piracy.

Sorry.

here’s the thing about that: it takes going to court to argue that and hoping you get a favorable ruling.

and that’s very, very expensive and you could be shut down via injunction until that happens, which could take years.

and even if the lemmy.world admin could afford hundred of thousands or millions in legal fees to win a case against the RIAA and/or MPAA, why would they want to risk it?

BrooklynMan,
@BrooklynMan@lemmy.ml avatar

I think it’s pretty disturbing that you think that there’s anything in common with keeping the conversations in this community relevant and the atrocities committed in Ukraine by the illegal invasion by Russia.

worse, that you’d try to blame me or any of it. but don’t worry, you don’t have to worry about the rules here ever again.
