I 100% relate to the Orville Peck song cover of 'Smalltown Boy'. In a way, it mirrored my own experience in a small city; Misunderstood, bullied, I didn't cry after a while of this happening. I looked at others with dead and unaffected eyes, my face resembled a burial mask giving nothing away.
On the inside, there was an emotional storm...A teen boy trying to find out how to become a person in the eyes of others. I like to think I found the answer, like he did.

@WanderingInDigitalWorlds I'm glad you feel that way! I didn't want to come across as old queer shaking his fist at clouds lecturing you. I do know and like Peck's version but the Bronski Beat I had on vinyl in the 80s.
@lohihilo Or my own observational skills as sometimes I do spoiler alert figure out if a new artist's song is a cover by noticing that several artists in search results. ROFL
Gaysplaining is a great word, but I always imagine it done by imitating Bianca Del Rio's pattern of speech and mannerisms! 😂
@lohihilo ROFL Well others are whipper-snappers but I am pretty old myself at 40! However it is true that sometimes knowledge is collected by the slightly older (or not if their minds are closed to the world's wealth of collected information).

To be honest, I did see the other artist Bronski Beat while searching for Orville's cover song but didn't cotton on to it in that moment (too gay, much busy, can't sleep). I am glad that songs are getting new life through newer artists but in the future, I want them to explicitly label them as covers...So the curious can look for the original artist's song!
