@cbtryon every sports league and streaming/broadcast channel: gambling is great! we're all in, and everyone else should be too!

also those same people: not like that! how did this happen? it is surely a one time outlier

@mrcompletely Yeah, we seem to be creating gambling addictions now just as we created smoking addictions in a prior generation.

@cbtryon it's also just a huge liquid money pool connected to an existing grey and black market, and there will always be marginal players like this for whom a five or six figure payout is a reasonable risk. And prop bets make it so you don't have to shift the outcome of the game. You're not gonna snare a star for those amounts but a fringe rotation player in the NBA or someone like a long snapper in the NFL can influence the game around the edges
