I work at Google and I don’t want to be directly working in support of genocide. Should I:
A: Work from within to sabotage Israel’s data and frustrate their efforts
B: Get arrested for trespassing and fired for a performative gesture that accomplishes nothing
Assuming they’re competently reviewing performance, which many companies suck at, they’ll fire you for sabotaging from within and frustrating their efforts.
What would work to your advantage is just getting lazy as hell and coasting until they have to fire you while on a PIP, and then you can negotiate a way into a nice severance and some unemployment.
This is just an example, and I realize each job’s different, but one way of thinking is that from a service perspective, you’ve encouraged all your internal clientele and managers to funnel their requests and needs through a more centralized location as an accomplishment. Just leave out the laziness part. Example “I successfully encouraged our internal customers to send all support calls to go through our helpdesk to facilitate proper channels and project intakes, amplifying my productivity potential”.
Just leave out the part that you were a lazy fuck who was intentionally coasting in order to screw the company over, thereby creating a pathway for work to negate you by default.
Holding a “my employer sucks” banner in front of your employer’s offices will get you fired regardless of who the employer is or your views on geopolitics.
I hate to say it, but the firing is justified. If your job requires you to do something, and you refuse to do it, that justifies the firing.
That’s not to say that Google is in the right, either in providing the service to Israel or in the firings. Justified doesn’t mean it’s right, just that it’s a valid reason.
And if you’re working for a company that goes so far against your principles that you’d protest against them, even if they don’t fire you, you should certainly be looking for work elsewhere. Especially if the protest doesn’t work.

Still, it’s shitty. Even shittier is the bullshit excuses they’re lying or at least exaggerating. It’s typical capitalist bullshit. They don’t care what happens with their tech as long as they increase profits.

That’s even worse. This at its core has nothing to do with Palestine or anything else. It’s people loudly and publicly criticizing their employer on their own freaking premises. What did they expect? This isn’t like protesting the government, where you can essentially say what you want. Your employer has no duty to let you disparage them, much less do so while seeking as much attention as possible.
These people are competent enough to get hired by Google, I promise you this discussion is the intended end result. If you worked for a company doing bad things, better to get your departure in the news vs. quitting silently. Maybe you will even convince others to quit
