It's absolutely true that we're not in the same place as in 2020 — back then, most people actually tried not to get/give SARS-CoV-2. Case counts and community transmission were lower, too.

I was so pleased today when I got to work and two of my co-workers had joined me in masking. Everyone in the office is sniffling, coughing, or hacking up a lung, but no one will say the C word. I also have a friend in hospital due to Long Covid and I don't know why anyone would risk getting it.

BUT !! So many people lost their lives.

Apart from the fact that so very many people died for months on end, it was possible for an individual to feel and be safe(r)*.
In 2020 there was HOPE.

@fae2535 @crowgirl @trendless @novid In 2020, we hadn't yet seen how callous the system (including a distressingly high percentage of people) can be and is. That's the biggest disappointment for me.
