Hmmmm.

Trying to connect my new to the TV and it is adamant that it can't do HDR in 4K.

The AV receiver supports HDR passthrough, and the TV supports it. Things like the FireStick 4K are happy to do HDR at that resolution when plugged in.

Tried a couple of HDMI cables, but still no dice.

Time to figure out if it is a firmware thing, a cable thing, a port thing, a HDCP thing, or something else.

Almost as fun as actually playing games on it 😆

@Edent Out of interest, what will you be playing (or developing) on the PS5? 360 no scope twitch shooters? A bit of VR maybe? 🤔

@popey Oh, I don't play. It is @summerbeth's Stardew Valley and Doom machine.

She is a complex and contradictory gamer.

@Edent @summerbeth For some reason, I am now imagining a Doom-themed Stardew Valley and a Stardew Valley-themed Doom. Both sound like bangers, if I'm honest.

Plugging in directly with the same cable gives HDR.

But I'll be damned if I can tell the difference with it on or off!

Probably not going to upgrade all my components just to make the picture a little darker.

@Edent If you have an OLED TV the darks will be fine, it's the highlights that won't be as bright.
Sounds like the AV receiver isn't passing through the correct metadata or similar?
Some games (e.g. assassin's creed) have a setting at the start where it shows something on screen and you adjust the brightness until it is visible, which is a test of HDR.

@alastc sadly not OLED, a few years too old for that. But, yeah, probably the receiver.

@Edent my AV receiver technically supports HDR passthrough but hard crashes when setting the AppleTV to 4:4:4 chroma while working like a charm with 4:2:2. I got no idea why and didn’t care enough to find out as I connected it and the PS5 straight to the TV and started using eARC. Might be an option to play around with :/

@fallenhitokiri
I remember not setting up eARC because it didn't support DTS. Or something. It was a while ago. I'll play around with cables and settings!
