Ammi Burke really going for it today, it's impressive in its own weird way.

If you're not in Ireland and you're wondering what this is, it is a woman from a very weird ultra-religious family who got a job in the real world as a solicitor (lawyer), lost it by being weird, took the employer to the labour relations court, fucked it up in weird and interesting ways, took the labour relations court to court, and... well, that was today.

She's consistent, if nothing else.

geoglyphentropy,

@kevinteljeur Her transphobic, homophobic, fanatical family are the only ones in the country who would employ her.

Oy ...

"The Burkes are an Irish family from Castlebar, County Mayo, known for their radical religious activism and involvement in high-profile legal cases and protests in Ireland. The family are fundamentalist evangelical Christians, and consists of parents Martina and Sean Burke and their ten children ... A frequent subject of their protests is the LGBT community in Ireland."

@cstross @kevinteljeur wow. Especially the transphobe who was fired from a school and then kept showing up on campus anyway—what a nightmare! Toward the bottom of the article it says that the Westboro Baptist Church thought they had gone too far. Can you imagine having tactics that even WBC thinks are too extreme?

I read back there, whatever else I might think of the IT, they're covering it (it's a content mine - two articles a day). That's a tour de force in soundly losing a low-stakes case for maximum effort and cost. Madness.

1: Alienate the judge before anything has started
2: Make wild allegations
3: The allegations are not in your submissions
4: Irritate the judge
5: Repeat yourself over and over (the judge really hates this)
6: Talk over everyone
7: Judge rules against you without hesitation
8: Costs awarded against you
9: You're going to get a long write up of what the judge thinks of you and your behaviour
10: You'll never work in this town again
11: Did you say costs of two teams of barristers in High Court?

kevinteljeur,

12: Could've achieved the same outcome for free

Holly crossfit jesus, these people 😳😳😳

geoglyphentropy,

@kevinteljeur There are Freemen on the Land types looking at her (and her family) getting all this attention with envious eyes...

kevinteljeur,
@kevinteljeur@mastodon.online avatar

@geoglyphentropy Haha, yes! Although you could imagine Ben Gilroy shaking his head at her antics. I mean, she could have achieved the same outcome FOR FREE. I don’t understand why she actively worked towards a loss in court.

There's some talk of it running into six figures in a report that I read. I don't know if that's accurate, but two teams of barristers and solicitors in High Court... Yeah, you're into housing buying money if you get that awarded against you.

And the judge came that close to holding Burke in contempt of court.

eliterrell,

@kevinteljeur Yelling at a judge is a weird way to convince people you’re employable as an attorney.

kevinteljeur,
@kevinteljeur@mastodon.online avatar

@eliterrell Yes, she’s unemployable after one job out of college. But, that’s what she has to do to please mother 🤷‍♂️
