Welp, sure hope the Journal app works on iOS15.

@dhrystone it’s built into iOS 17, it’s a system app.

@bitterseeds Weird because in the App Store it’s showing for me as a cloud with a down-arrow rather than the word “get” implying that I downloaded it before - which I sure haven’t. That often has meant there’s a older version available. But of course there isn’t because apps that record simple text and pictures are super complicated and need the absolute latest operating system or they just cannot function properly.

@dhrystone Maybe they bought it? Not sure as it wasn't a feature I was paying attention to. 🤔

@bitterseeds Meh. Not important either way - been using Day One for a decade and that’s not likely to change.

@dhrystone I use Obsidian for almost everything these days, I migrated off 3 separate apps into Obsidian. It's why Apple's Journal app wasn't really on my radar. So, same boat. :D

@bitterseeds Same here. Maybe had I started years I would have used Obsidian for journaling but it has zero security features like pin or facelock, no daily reminders or “on this day” (that I’m aware of) and isn’t purpose-built to be a diary. For pretty much everything else it’s unbeatable. Especially the price. 🆓

@dhrystone I have my vault on my server so I'm not to worried about having a lock. The daily reminder thing, I get that. I just treat it as if it was an old school paper journal. Some days I don't need to be reminded that I was livid about something in 2017. :D

I mostly use Obsidian for documents and correlation of those docs..
I'm probably using it poorly but fits my use case. I'll check out Day One. It looks interesting.

@bitterseeds I honestly just started using DayOne for fun years ago. First post was about the day my kid learned to ride a bike (he’s 16 now). When I started using a MacBook for work I was able to use the Mac standalone app for entries, which was pretty cool - another app that is only for Mac unfortunately. DO is great for its purpose and very slick. I got grandfathered in on a particular “Plus” plan but they charge an annual subscription for certain features, like attaching videos to posts, and that’s definitely a reason to use Obsidian instead.

is another similar app I’ve had a look at recently.

@dhrystone An honest moment from me. I'm REALLY bad at keeping up with journal entries. That's why free is good for me. :D
