"In Memoriam of Python 2

Today, on the Day of the Dead 2023, we at the Internet Archive honor the death of Python 2. Having mostly emerged from one of the greatest software upgrade SNAFU’s in history—the migration from Python 2 to Python 3—we now shed a tear for that old version that served us so well."

@brewsterkahle Many of us only jumped on the Python bandwagon when we felt assured that Python 2 was dead.

@brewsterkahle I always say: the problem with Python 3 isn't that they broke too much backwards compatibility, it's that they didn't break enough. P3 should've been the moment where they locked down and standardized the API so that PyPy and the like could become first-class citizens.

Also should've been the time to come up with a coherent multi-threading story.

@brewsterkahle There is still a lot of Python 2 out there. (I know, a lot of it is mine - and because it does a lot of work with network packet fields it isn't a straight forward conversion to Python 3 - we figure it's a year or two conversion and testing project, and yes, we have started.)

Yet, the Linux and FreeBSD distributions have ripped out Python2 - if not completely, at least most of the supporting packages.

(It is also annoying how the Python3 interpreter is often not invoked as "python3" but something like "python3.9" This makes #! shebang lines somewhat useless.)
