Five months ago today, I was recovering from my first (known) infection. It took me weeks to feel normal.

Now, as I prepare to get on a plane next week for the first time since then, I am incredibly nervous and anxious. Especially cuz I know I'll be one of only a few people at the airport and on the plane.

Maybe we'll all luck out and not catch the latest variant. Maybe the risk will seem worth it to see my family.

But I freaking hate this timeline.

Maybe the worst part (emotionally anyway) is that my infection cancelled a similar trip. And that trip would have taken place around the nadir of infections (at least here in MN). And from a weather perspective, would have been more fun.

I want my kids to know my nieces more than just some pictures. Yes, we're all vaxxed with updated boosters. But that was also the case in July.

So much of this is out of our control. When peaks and valleys occur. When new variants evolve to beat our vaxxes. Heck, half the time, I bet folks who get it don't know HOW they got it. (I had a guess, but couldn't pinpoint exactly.)

And it's so frustrating to know that a simple thing like masking, something we CAN control, is too much for too many people to bother with.

Yes, it's uncomfortable and inconvenient. So are shoes and shirts sometimes, but we've agreed on those.
