colinsmatt11, Is soup a meal? If that's correct then it would imply that you can drink a meal, but consumption of a meal is often referred to as eating it.
So it would make more sense to eat a soup rather than drink it.
Or rather it's conditional, where you can only eat soup when it's a meal?
