While I do have some concerns about the filters, it strongly suspect that it's more cost-effective to build multiple PC fan boxes with high-quality but lower-rated filters than to spend $$$ on MERV-13 Filtrete filters. This one has a mix of Filtrete MERV-11 and MERV-12 filters.

A Lasko box fan costs $20-$25. 8 Arctic fans cost me $40-$45. If I have to pay $50 for two 10x20 MERV-13 filtrete filters, or I can find them for $20 but only MERV-11/12... I'm going with the sale.

@Andres4NY my concern would be whether lower MERV ratings are providing effective filtration at all, since I think the ratings correspond to effective pore size and therefore the de facto filtration rate of smaller particulates drops off steeply

@vorlon I'm going by this independent test that showed filterbuy and home depot (hdx brand) merv-13 filters performing worse than Filtrete merv-11 filters at clearing smoke (when installed in cr boxes) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAJ__E-hIJc
