That said I have had many times the interesting discussion while I was working at W3C with people asking me: "Why don't you force implementer X to implement web standard A?". The answer is indeed because W3C has no enforcement power and for good reasons. Industrial consortium vs Civil society.

There are a lot of careful discussions to have about enforcement of standards through regulations. Not an easy topic. Definitely.

@karlcow I was joking that there is a standards police, but they don't want people to know they exist, so they spread the false rumour that they don't.
