In future, I will never, ever, ever, ever again by anything from Western Digital or any of its subsidiaries/brands. Just had a year-old top-of-the-line NVMe SSD die for no good reason. Honestly, I have no idea how much data I’ve lost. In future, I will also be much more militant about taking off-line backups.
@NoahCarver I'm so sorry this has happened to you. This is something I'm always concerned about having moved from Windows to IOS. I do have everything backed up in two places, Dropbox and iCloud, and I should take the time to also backup my books and important documents on a couple of flash drives which I can also access via my phone.
@lynnskyi@NoahCarver Yeah, my compassion to you. And also, SSD drives are far from being a good backup medium, as far as I know. Better hard drives and/or clouds and/or optical disks like DVD.
@menelion@NoahCarver I also worry that we're too dependent on storage media we cannot access without an Internet connection, but there's only so much I can do about that using just my phone.
@lynnskyi@NoahCarver You can buy an external hard drive and use a USB connection to your phone. However, iPhone being a super closed environment, it's a pain in the back to copy anything from and to it.
@NoahCarver My experience with WD has been the opposite. Knocked my 18-TB WD drive over, it was two days out of warranty with amazon. Created an RMA with WD, sent my drive off, should be getting a replacement in a couple days now.
