A major driver of the current dystopian political and social dysfunction is a complete and utter loss of in just about everything. Folks just don’t trust anyone or anything anymore - or so it seems. We don’t trust corporations to do the right thing in any situation; we don’t trust professional of all stripes to be genuinely concerned about our issues; we don’t trust schools to protect our kids; hospitals to keep us healthy; the police to not brutalize or shoot us; we don’t even trust bishops and priests to keep their hands off of small children. And, of course, we don’t trust government unless one is lucky enough to live in a Scandinavian country (where it appears governments do everything right). Trust is fundamental to societal cohesion, healthy communities, and a sense of wellbeing. It underlies healthy relationships, well functioning families and resilient communities. And rn in the USA, trust is at an all time low. https://www.amacad.org/publication/fifty-years-declining-confidence-increasing-polarization-trust-american-institutions
