That film was while eugenics immigration laws were still in place.

My grandfather came here in 1898 and my grandmother in 1910. They met around 1914 and married. They had 5 kids by 1923 and became US citizens in 1924 or 1925. I never thought to ask why they waited and what made them finally do it. I'm guessing it had to do with the 1926 immigration laws. Being Irish Catholic, they wouldn't have been allowed to become citizens had they waited
