@christianschwaegerl @pikarl Sure. The particles enter atmosphere and when they hit a molecule, a photon is emitted. The color depends on the molecule.
So, in fact, Aurora is a storm of very small light pulses, not a constant stream. Your eye detects them, but only a few at any time. The camera chip detects them, but aggregates for a longer time, hence it gets brighter there.
