More joys of

Out of 367 clips in this timeline (that we have to transfer from Premiere to using SendtoX), 40 files randomly do not relink. Checksums match, no weirdness in file paths.

And that's where you just stop. Nothing you can do 🤷

@stooovie I remember when I worked on a project in Premiere Pro it would make tons of little audio cache files that it actually used for playback, for files that it otherwise would have trouble with, and I'd hear nothing in my timeline until it had finished doing that in the background. I'd think when sending a timeline to another application the data would link to the original files rather than the weird intermediate cache files, but maybe?

Likely not applicable, but it popped to mind.

@zachnfine that's a good tip, but no - that would mean no handles. But the offline, unrelinkable clips still have full clip ranges both ways...

@stooovie Ah well nevermind then. I'd look to see if the offline clips have any other difference (sampling rate, start tc, reel/name) but I'm sure you've already done that.

@zachnfine no, it's all the same sources made in the same day minutes apart (typical dual audio shoot). this is on FCPX.

@stooovie Ah well. Any notable difference between the clips that are offline and the ones that are not? Maybe even stored in a folder that has some character in its name that's not alphanumeric?

I'm just brainstorming -- have no actual knowledge of the use of SendToX. I wonder if you can export an AAF, bring it into Davinci Resolve, and then send from that to FCPX (via sendtox or some aaf transfer or whatever method is available) in order to try and not have to go overcutting audio manually?

@zachnfine no, none. Checksums match, no funny characters in paths. I've been using SendtoX for years and Phillip and Greg from Intelligent Assistance (devs) are GOATs of this stuff. But I will try through Resolve, yeah.

@stooovie I think I had a workflow for something in which I had to go from Media Composer to Resolve and only then to Logic Pro in order to make audio actually work at the destination, but it's been a while. I remember finding it funny that this interchange format didn't interchange exactly the same way in different apps.

@zachnfine AAF is painful in many other ways, yeah :) I use X2Pro to do that and haven't had any complaints from audio guys (on the contrary, they love the very clean timelines from FCPX)

stooovie,
@stooovie@mas.to avatar

@zachnfine and I always do a cleanup pass before I send timelines off for mixing

@zachnfine hey, whaddya know, zero faulty clips when taken through Resolve instead of SendtoX. I'll file a report with the StX devs, they usually get back within hours.

Thanks!

@zachnfine nevermind, it's even more wacky. Audio clips look like they relink but they don't really. Cannot be revealed, do not play and are still Missing. This shit is just broken.

@stooovie Aw, was excited for a moment that you'd found a solution. Ah well.

@zachnfine I sort of did. It links fine on one machine, doesn't link at all on a different machine, from the same drive😳I can make do with the one machine (at work) but it's very capricious and unreliable for whatever God damn reason. Better than 40 random offline clips though.
