Has anyone used #JLCPCB assembly service with some components skipped? Does the paste still get applied to those pads, or does JLC remove those openings from the stencil? If not, I can do it myself, just curious 🙂

@arturo182 There is an option for that on the first page. It costs a bit extra to have the paste applied.

No paste in my experience. I'm not sure they use a stencil, perhaps a paste printer?

@tomkeddie

I have made boards with ESP32 modules on them, and jlcpcb not populating those, i.e. not in the no LCSC column in the BOM; No Paste.

I can't recall any time where they were out-of-stock, but assume that their process is identical.

Another interesting observation; When ordering Assembly, one can't order a Stencil, which could be related to not be able to have two execution paths of the process.

@niclas @tomkeddie @Affekt @arturo182 aha! just checked and there's an advanced option:

"Add paste for unpopulated pad & step stencil opening"

@niclas @tomkeddie @Affekt @arturo182 so yeah, that explains why I've not seen random solder on DNP pads on my boards, and neither have you. you have to say "ok but add the solder anyway for reasons"

@arturo182 yes, and I haven't noticed any remnants of paste being applied. I'm pretty sure their DFM process automatically removes the paste on DNP component pads based on what I received a couple years back.

@arturo182 I'm not sure what they do if you also request the stencils as well though. I guess you'd have to confirm with them.

@gsuberland @arturo182 oh neat. I'll have to start using them for assembly.

@gsuberland @arturo182 is that becoming more standard? The manufacturers we use in China for our bigger EVM production do not do that.

@Affekt @arturo182 not a clue. I'm only basing this off one round of boards from a couple years ago.
