When I saw Little Kitty, Big City was available on Xbox PC Game Pass, I definitely had to try it.
The best way I can describe this game is that it’s a cat simulator. As a cat, you’re spreading mischief all over Tokyo. But hey, the residents of Tokyo can’t stay mad at you. You are, after all, a lovable cat.
This game has managed to make me be jealous of cats. You know how much I wish that I could just take a nice nap in the sunlight? Or pounce on a bird? Or haphazardly knock over flower pots?
I very much feel like a cat, and that’s not the easiest thing to accomplish.
The developer is quite insistent that you use a gamepad, even warning you prior to starting the game. For the first hour, I did what they wanted. But after awhile, what would happen if I used a mouse and keyboard instead. And damn what the developers want, i prefer keyboard and mouse controls. It’s more comfortable that way, especially since I have a nice mechanical keyboard that does my bidding.
There is something that scratches my head, though. Double Dagger Studio is located in Seattle. I don’t know why so many American video game companies set their games in Japan. Don’t get me wrong, Japan is a lovable country. But nevertheless, why Japan?
Compared to AAA titles, the graphics are quite basic. Yet, this being an indie game, it’s well done. The low poly visual aesthetic is pleasing to the eye. It’s also quite nice that this game can run on 10-year-old hardware.
The soundtrack is excellent as well. Cool jazz is a great choice when you’re a cat. The developers actually sell the soundtrack as DLC, and I’d say it’s worth it.
This is Double Dagger Studio’s first game that they’ve ever released, and this is an excellent debut. I would be shocked if this game isn’t a massive hit, especially since it’s so wholesome and accessible. Kids ought to love it, older folks too.
For real, if you like cats, you will love this game.
