Just watched the latest video from @mattferrell which is extremely timely for me. I posted a blog post earlier today where I mentioned I was wanting to get a heat pump water heater, and a few hours later Matt posted this: https://youtu.be/abGiNL9IT54?si=w_GyCuD47w4Yn-H4

My blog post from earlier: https://www.markloveless.net/blog/2024/2/27/solar-adventures-continue

@mattferrell A question for you that’s kind of related to this video as you mention the high cost of grid energy in Mass, like $0.30 a kWh. Is that an “average” rate for a 24 hour period or just the average price when you’re actually pulling from the grid? I ask because my energy company listed average price on my monthly bill based upon when I download it only, as rates vary depending on time of day. As a result my major “hit” is in the mornings before the sun is high enough to cover load (evening is all batteries, so all good). Anyway just curious.

@simplenomad my rates aren’t time of use, so that’s the actual price.

@mattferrell Ouch. That stings. I guess one advantage of living in a crazy state with several dozen power companies is at least rates here are somewhat competitive.
