Lol. Wanted to remove some of my answers from and can't login suddenly.

A cew hours ago everything was fine. Password reset doesn't work.

I guess they'll do everything to keep the content for OpenAI. 💩

@kaiserkiwi
Are they exempt from the GDPR? I don't think so...

@kaiserkiwi Be careful - I'm seeing reports of people that have attempted to remove their answers or even adding lines like "I do not consent to this content being indexed by AI" and not only having those edits/removals reset, but also having their accounts suspended by the moderators.

SO are being real dicks about this whole thing.

@SynAck @kaiserkiwi oh I'm pretty sure this breaks GDPR

@marta @SynAck It does.

@marta @kaiserkiwi I saw some mention of that as well, and the answers weren't quite clear. It has something to do with the fact that the SO TOS has carve-outs for the fact that any posts there become SO property in perpetuity, and that once an answer has been accepted, it would somehow "break the functionality of the site" (paraphrased).

I don't know any more than that, as I'm certainly no expert on copyright and privacy law in the US, much less the GDPR, but the way that the SO mods have been going after people attempting to either remove content or poison their "AI" data set suggests that they're going to go to the mat to put this to the test.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this pans out. I really do hope that it does violate the GDPR, so maybe that can help put a stop to this insanity.

@SynAck @marta You can't "carve out" stuff out of EU law. That's not how it works here.

I can (and will) file a delete request for all my data and they have a certain time-frame to comply.

They could just "rewrite" my answers and keep them under another name. But they can't just keep my data. If someone would file a complaint that they think the data is still there, the EU could start an investigation.
