I want to do an informal survey to get a sense of the age demographics of trans people and at what age they started transitioning or presenting openly. This is the UPDATED version of the earlier poll.
INSTRUCTIONS: Please answer this poll about your current age, then go down the thread to find the poll for your current age demographic and answer the second poll there about transition/presentation age.
Thanks ahead of time to all who participate! PLEASE BOOST
@forestpines ooo, didn't think of that one... I'd like de/retransitioners to answer their first social/medical transition or first period openly presenting as their gender. That would help, thanks!
@JoscelynTransient I missed the time to answer the poll, but it's also a difficult question to answer.
I was fully a girl until I was ~11. Then I got expelled from the society of girls and was made to hang out with boys. It did not go well. By 17, I felt like there was no place for me in the world and I tried to end my life. I didn't manage to, so I decided to repress my gender and try to become a man... and I lived in denial until my 41st birthday when I hatched out of my egg.
@lulu as I've reconnected with my inner little girl, I've realized something similar. I was a girl at heart and it wasn't until bullying and other dangers forced me to make a boy out of myself that I became the person I presented as for so long. May not be the exact same to what you meant, but more just to acknowledge it is a hard thing to come to terms with and none of this is as straightforward as a poll tries to capture
@JoscelynTransient Realized I was trans at 34, transitioned instantly (name change), haircut the next day, testosterone a month later. If I couldn't have done it instantly I would have probably never transitioned, and shortened my lifespan to maybe 35 years.
That's why I'm not just passionate, but rabid, about informed consent instant access to transition healthcare. Waiting lists are forced detransition, and forced detransition is murder. No grey area for me, there. #TransHealthcare
Similar experience here. I’d likely be dead if I wasn’t able to transition immediately. Came out to myself at the end of February. Started HRT and came out at work in March.
@JoscelynTransient Because like i technically socially transitioned 90% 10 years ago but I'm still waiting on medical transition to do the other 10%, but the way this question is framed allows a reading of "this 20 yro was medically transitioning while under the age of 20"
@alexandria I actually asked for medical or social because I'm more interested in the point at which a person began the process of living as a trans person, either which way. I started socially a year before I medically transitioned, and that is kinda more the point I'm eying - the beginning of the journey whether social or medical
