@WrenArcher yeah, i used to do 2-hour sessions once a week, and it got to the point that i was depressed and discombulated for almost a third of the week. I switched up to every other week, which was easier and tuen eventually had to go to once a month because i just couldn't. If it gets too rough, definitely suggest pacing yourself because it will make it more manageable.

Either that, or find one of the places that provides numbing shots and does several hours at a time. My insurance threatened to not cover my care if I did that since technically the shot would be out of network, but i've known folks who do that out of pocket and say it's so much better and absolutely worth it.

My transition is going amazingly well in so many ways but one: my voice. I’ve struggled with it for a long time.

Today I realized it’s not because it’s hard (though it is) Rather, I struggle because I won’t let myself do well.

My voice keeps me from being correctly gendered in public. And I think deep down I don’t feel I deserve to be. I’m not worthy of it.

So I don’t let myself have it.

Voice is so challenging. Some of us adapt well and connect with the vocal skills, some find it a heck of a lot harder, but ypu still deserve to be gendered correctly and feel euphoric. Think I’ll be taking a break for a while. I have always been too much. Too much to fit into any boxes. Couldn’t fit into a male box, not sure I fit into a trans box. Probably some way that I don’t fit into a nonbinary box. Don’t fit into a work box, too many art boxes for me to fit into. Can’t fit into a trauma box. Tired of trying to fit in.

@johana I had this happen too. Friends were jokingly calling me "professor" when I was younger, and i was treated as an absent-minded intellectual....now I'm a ditzy blonde bimbo who was previously fired from a research career because i was suddenly perceived as less "engaging" and competent. Funny how that works! 😖

So today, I will have a teeny, tiny needle jabbed into my face a couple hundred times. With each stab it will have an electric current turned on to kill a hair follicle.

Yes... A single hair follicle. One hair follicle at a time, for an hour.

I am not looking forward to this at all. Not all trans women/transfemme people get electrolysis on their face but I am.

@WrenArcher As a veteran of 2 - 3 years of electrolysis...know you're going through this with so many of us having shared in earning our euphoria and beauty through pain and struggle. :BigBlobhajHug:​

Hope they gave you useful stuff to help with pain relief or numbing. When I first started roughly a year or so on HRT, I didn't need any, but after a few years, my skin had changed so much and I was more sensitive in general, and it got to be a real challenge. Plan something nice to comfort and support yourself after - I always got a milkshake or smoothie to be like "Good job Joss!"

@WrenArcher @EmilyGB2023 A basic lidocaine cream is often available over-the-counter. I find Ibuprofen helps too. Also, if you're asked if you have a preference on the method, I suggest asking for thermolysis rather than blended, as it tends to be less taxing on the nervous system overall in my experience.

I guess I don't talk about it much, but One (pronounced like Oh-knee) is my and my wife's adopted nephew. He was one of my wife's trans students, and we mentored him and invited him over for holidays as we do with many of the queer youth that come to us for support. And over time, he became a part of our family.

I was so proud of him when I watched him walk and get his diploma at his graduation last year. We've been with him through the highs and lows of life. We were able to celebrate with him and his fiancee when they got engaged (SO FREAKING ADORABLE!). And we'll be there for him to share in all the struggles and joys and support in whatever way we can.

So freaking proud of him and love him so much! 💖​

Just finished the last day in class for the first course I ever taught as a proper lecturer! Every student that stuck it through to the end demonstrated so much learning and growth, and several came up to talk after and thank me for the course.

Feels so great having been in the classroom again and smiling ear to ear. That said, looking forward to many months working only a single job instead of two at once 😅

My husband was transferred to a Memory Care Assisted Living in Escondido, CA. He was 61. So I decided to adopt a cat, besides my two dogs, Zap and Guida, who came from Brazil with me. I went to San Diego Humane in Escondido and found these two brother and sister. I couldn't adopt just one. So Eve with the white dot on her nose and Benz, all black nose came to me. It was in September, 2019.

Starting HRT is not an irreversible leap off a cliff. If you wanna experiment with hormones for a bit, and decide you don't like them, that's absolutely 100% chill and no trans person that isn't a sucky truscummy piece of shit is going to be mad at you about that.

@salad_bar_breath That's a good point actually. I wonder how it differs for transfems who begin on injections? Mainly wanted to acknowledge transmascs and folks that want to start T can often feel intimidated by it, and there's some realities and some myths around that. But that it's not actually a big irreversible leap to try out either. 💖​
