obv transphobes should not have done that, it’s a huge overreaction to requesting pronouns and a really shitty thing to do in general
that said, i understand the dev not wanting to put a statement out. iirc the romances in stardew are fairly gendered and i can understand why it would be difficult to implement pronouns and have them be respected in romances where your gender is significant
the developer may well feel non binary people are valid and might just believe he wouldn’t be able to do them justice in the game and doesn’t wanna say that
i think it’s the right thing to do in this situation, as well as condemning the doxxing and harassment. but i understand it being a tough thing to do
I so fucking hate transphobes. I hope Ape will add pronouns since it’s minor change with powerful impact. Stardew Valley is so queer-friendly game and i hope it stays so
I don’t know if it’s that much of a minor change. The code around gender seems to be rather interesting - the dwarf is explicitly of “undefined” gender, and iirc that defaults to female in a couple of weird places. And how do you handle explicitly gendered cutscenes? Leah and Alex have heart events that are contingent on the farmer’s gender (and - spoilers - George gets over his homophobia if you marry Alex as a male farmer - how would George respond to a non binary farmer on spring 1 year 1?)
I think it would be awesome if CA did add a non-binary option, but I think someone who actually is non-binary is going to be able to do way better with with writing authentic interactions. CA is awesome, and I assume he’s a trans ally, but I think this would take an absurd amount of research for him to do well.
That said, I’ll be disappointed if Haunted Chocolatier doesn’t have a non-binary option.
Oh, i didn’t know that! I think it would be cool to do some kind of contest for interactions where everyone can submit one. I am sure community can come up with some sweet lines for these scenes for non-binary peeps
