I’d like to delete all my tweets en masse. There’s not many. Is there an open source option to do so? These “delete my tweets” platforms all look sketchy to me.

Here's how I ended up deleting my likes, retweets and tweets, in order (important):

Warning - these scripts will delete your tweets

https://github.com/carloshdezbueno/delete-tweets-and-retweets-from-twitter

I also locked my account to followers only.

I'm doing one more round of configuration checks, then shutting it down.

During my final check, I noticed two more things:

Settings > Privacy and safety
Discoverability and contacts
Under manage contacts, I must have let twitter connect to my address book. It has phone and emails of family and friends! I chose the option to "Remove all contacts", but it says it may take awhile.

Content you see
Optional, but here was a list of items twitter thinks I'm interested in. I removed them, one by one.

I checked this morning and "Remove all contacts" completed.

Finding your Twitter Follows in the Fediverse
Or elsewhere
In the meantime, I also found a way to export a lot of data about the people I follow so I can attempt to find them on other platforms.

Fedifinder, an app that scans your Twitter follows for fediverse account links, still works! It's added support for Bluesky. Still a lot of missing accounts but this gives me a start.

@box464 Semiphemeral was both free and not scammy, but shut down after Musk started charging for API access. I think it's literally impossible to run such a service now without paying Musk at least $40,000 per month.

@NIH_LLAMAS Yeah, there are a few still out there, and probably free for me since I had much less than 3k posts to go through! But I found some easy ways to automate the process (requires a bit of cut and paste and opening the dev console which might scare away some)

@box464 I used TweetDeleter way back when, just before the APIpocalypse. I don’t know if it still works.

@box464 could you just download your data so that you have what you need, then delete your account? That's what I did.

@box464@mastodon.social avatar

@chris I've done the backup export and even made an archive site.

But..I also researched what Twitter does with your data (likes, retweets, posts) and I don't want them to have that data to sell to anyone else. I found a way, I'll make a new post about it in a minute.
