Travellers face Easter bank holiday chaos after major train disruption

Rail passengers faced bank holiday chaos on trains across South Wales due to power issues on the mainline.

All services between Cardiff and Carmarthen were suspended this morning (Monday) due to a signalling fault from an electrical issue - believed to have been caused by a cable theft.

National Rail says the issue has now been resolved and services have recommenced as usual.

A ‘Do Not Travel’ notice was issued but has since been lifted.

Both Great Western Railway and Transport for Wales were unable to run services between Cardiff and Carmarthen and on the Heart of Wales line between Swansea and Shrewsbury.

Services on the Maesteg line and Vale of Glamorgan line were also affected.

In a statement, a Transport for Wales spokesperson said: "Due to signalling and power issues between Bridgend and Llanelli, Transport for Wales was unable to run services between Cardiff and Carmarthen and on the Heart of Wales line between Swansea and Shrewsbury.
