TarquinNimrod,

Any info? Do you have this and is it any good?

@Inamin ingenious! You're braver than I, though. I don't want anything but solid metal in my tools, ideally. Which is why my favourite woodworking tool is a crowbar ಠ_ಠ

jk, although I am primarily a handtool ww, so am wary of power tools in general, and have a healthy respect for how much material they can remove in terrifyingly efficient fashion.

oh and there are some interesting strength comparisons between birch ply and pla (and other materials) here https://www.cnckitchen.com/blog/whats-stronger-3d-prints-or-wood

I'll let you know when I arrive at the ER!

tbf, this isn't an original idea, there are several of them on youtube made of plywood. I am already working out how I can hang most of it off an aluminium front plate with two 10mm round bars for it to plunge on. The problem is I have designed it to have dust collection through the front plate, so it would be tricky to machine. There is some room behind the front plate to install a little port for dust collection.

This is an example of one made of plywood https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcD962oGykE. shows how it all articulates.

This is what I've been working on, and while it's not woodworking per se, it is a woodworking tool.

I have no idea how well it will work - eg if the 3d printed parts will be rigid enough especially around the fence height posts, but yeah, it's designed to be majority 3d printed, and designed to be cheap - the rest of the parts are sourced from aliexpress - linear rails, round bar, etc. I'm about ready to order parts, then start printing to test tolerances etc.

The router it's designed around is the cheap and cheerful Einhell (Or Ozito if you're in AU or NZ) trim router. This is a reasonable quality tool for the price. In AU$ it is $119 without batteries. You could use any 63-65mm router with this - eg Makita or aliexpress clones, either battery or mains powered.

@Inamin Do you mind posting the model? I'm going to be getting my own 3d printer after borrowing a friends for a bit. I wouldn't mind adding this to my list of projects to do.
