Would love feedback from anyone who's left Substack and has gone the Wordpress + SES or Sendgrid route: https://danielwmorgan.town/posts/breaking-free-from-substack-a-howto-guide-for-medium-technical-people/
While this isn't the most user friendly option, it may fit the bill for people who already like Wordpress and send updates out infrequently.
