Feature request - Custom feeds

Boost for reddit allowed the creation of custom feeds with groups of subreddits, I suspect this is harder across lemmy instances but it would make my many communities easier to navigate if I could group them together (even better if they can be grouped independent of whether I have actually joined the community).

wmmc88, to boostforlemmy in Feature request - Custom feeds

I definitely think this would be a huge value add. The decentralized nature of lemmy makes it so that there are a lot of different communities on different instances, that all are about the same topics. As an end user, it makes sense for me to want to see posts from all these communities in a single feed.

I saw that there is some work on the upstream lemmy side on providing support for multireddits/custom feeds, but upstream discussion also seems to indicate that different frontends, like Boost, should have the apis to be able to do this client side in the meantime.

Lemmy app with community grouping?

I love all the apps that are being made, each one has something new to bring, but I have yet to see one implement a community grouping option. Something to view all your communities that revolve around the same theme in one wall. Kind of like mini homes. So far the only alternative I found is making separate accounts, follow...

Zeus, (edited ) to lemmyapps in Lemmy app with community grouping?

there are a couple of issues on github related to doing this natively through lemmy

i will find and link them in the morning, but try searching github.com/lemmynet/lemmy for β€œmultireddits” and β€œtags”

  • - supposed duplicate
  • - nested communities idea

CaldeiraG, to youshouldknow in YSK: You can use Libreddit instead of Reddit for more privacy and no ads (and no traffic/views for Reddit)

Not too sure about this, it seems to use just anonymous API endpoints that are still working (see and )

CaldeiraG, to reddit in Does anybody else feel dirty when they visit reddit?

Libreddit is likely also going away (see ) but they're doing some work to implement scraping ().

We can only hope though since it's my favorite client on the desktop

What is the best way to make sense of the alternative federated communities?

It's a little daunting to me that in some cases there are 2 or more communities between the federated alternatives; what's the best way to corral these? I had thought I could perhaps subscribe to Lemmy instances on kbin; is that correct? If so, how? Thank you in advance....

Spzi, to RedditMigration in What is the best way to make sense of the alternative federated communities?

if they ever add lists they could work like a β€œmultireddit” to corral all the same type of community into one feed at least on the user-end.

There is issue : Support for grouping communities / multi-communities

Quoting from this statement of the devs:

we are seeing lots of requests to implement major new features, such as migration between instances, or combining similar communities. As described above, we are completely overloaded with work, and definitely won’t have time to implement these in the near future. If there is a feature you want to see implemented, you will likely need to work on it yourself, or find someone who can.

Thank you for posting these by the way; it’s important that folks are aware of other instances.

Maybe we can even have multi-communities, soon. At least on lemmy instances. Dunno whether kbin supports this already or is going to.

Usually you don’t need accounts on other instances to interact with their communities, e. g. my account is on lemmy.world, but I’m subscribed to 3 GW2 communities on 3 different instances one of which even being a different platform (kbin and not lemmy).

These communities now appear as if they were on my instance, but are in fact local copies which are synchronized/federated using the ActivityPub protocol.

Note that these communities are not merged, i .e. they still appear as separate communities, but there is a (pretty popular) feature request for this on GitHub.

Support for grouping communities / multi-communities

I don’t know whether federation from lemmy to kbin is currently supported. I’m only using the other direction.
