Regarding the #BurningMan situation, one comment: Heavy rain events in the Desert SW and Great Basin are only moderately unusual in late Aug/early Sep as late-season monsoonal moisture interacts with early-season troughs/low pressure systems (as is occurring at present). #NVwx
@ai6yr@weatherwest It doesn’t make much sense that a nationally-known and respected meteorologist like Daniel Swain would ignore a potential mass media audience.
The impacts section of this article shows a bit of what #SouthernCalifornia is expecting with #hurricaneHilary, only more so. #DanielSwain@weatherwest points out that this storm will have a leading rain band that could fill washes and soak soil before the dumping starts, which make the danger worse. He also points out that a lot more people live in the area, and in #vulnerable places like alluvial fans and near washes, than did then.
