Software is a projection — a manifestation of the vision of the people who created it. When the people who initially created the vision leave a project, the software will inevitably change. It will reform itself to fit the vision of the new owners. It doesn’t matter how good the software was. It doesn’t matter how profitable or how many users it has. Without the original people, or at least like-minded people, it will become distorted, for better or worse.
