decibelsummer, 9 months ago to Germany On our fourth hike in Germany we visited the Wartburg. While the outside was nice, the inside was truely unexpected. #Wartburg #Germany #Castle #WartburgCastle #Eisenach #Thuringia #Historical #Thüringen #Kasteel An elevated part of a room, looking somewhat like a stage. At the front of the stages are pillars, creating three arcs through which you can see the richly decorated backwall which has three long columns of writing on it. On both sides of the stage are benches against the wall. The front of the stage and the pillars are also richly decorates with geometric patterns and figures from nature. Looking around a grey wall a grey gargoyle can be seen sitting on a downward sloping wall. Behind it the wall is painted orange to the left and green to the right and decorated with figures from nature. A large hall with lots of wooden chairs in rows. The ceiling has elaborate wooden paneling and in the distance a sort of low stage is visible. The walls are richly decorated with colourful paintings, carvings and some tapestries. A detail from an arch painted in red, orange, green, blue and gold and showing geometric patterns as well as figures from nature such as leaves and foxes. A view of the upper part of a wall that is richly decorated in colourful paintings. To the sides a man and a woman are painted with halos around their heads. In the middle a man is sitting on a throne with a sword in his hand. Above all three people is an image of a castle. In between the people are arches where windows used to be which have been closed off. A mural of a woman with a halo holding a baby and sheltering a child in her robes. In front of her is a child with a walking stick and behind her is another child looking backwards, as if fleeing from something. A view along the outside of the Wartburg. To the left, part of the castle is made of red brick and yellow stone details. It has a tower with the German flag flying on top. To the right, most of the castle wall is white with half-timbered buildings on top and somewhat sticking out.
