When Sumana gives you (or, well, to be honest, your juggling circus kid) lemons, I guess you take them back home halfway across the continent and join them with your own backyard lemons and make Otherwise Lemonade...
Speaking of the Otherwise Award, both the 2021 winners are at this year's #WisCon -- and we've posted photos of a few items I'll be auctioning tomorrow:
In a similar spirit to her "Cat Pictures, Please" short story and Catnet books; also engaging with some of the same ideas as https://www.lightspeedmagazine.com/fiction/maneki-neko/ Bruce Sterling's "Maneki Neko" (a story I find way less engaging) and Neal Stephenson's "The Diamond Age".
The "I'd never taken [spoiler] in high school... Why had I ever given it up?" passage caused me to tear up. This piece of #DesignFiction sketches how assistive tech could scaffold not just executive function and life planning, but also the pursuit of happiness. And realistically portrays the roles of trust and community in a way that reminds me of "The Good Place."
Looking forward to @naomikritzer's panels at #WisCon in a few weeks!
I'm going to the feminist scifi/fantasy convention #WisCon in person in Madison, Wisconsin later this month, and speaking in several program sesions. You can register now to attend in-person or remotely: May 26-29th.
