Symfony-based kbin is taking the Threadiverse by Storm (www.symfonystation.com)

Thanks to the recent asshattery of Reddit and its douche CEO, open-source alternatives are blowing up. kbin is a Fediverse platform built with Symfony, API Platform. and Schema Generator 3 by Ernest Wiśniewski. And it’s the one to migrate to if you don’t want to support the c*nts leading Reddit.

ELI5: ActivityPub and federation

I'm really excited to jump on the Activitypub/Fediverse train, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around how it works. Kbin is federated (or its supposed to be, apparently DDoS protection is hampering that?), but I'm not sure how I can sign up with my Mastodon account. I already have one, @ArchieBAntlers , and apparently...

In the aftermath of a chaotic Twitter takeover, many people have moved away from centralized social media platforms to a new set of social platforms that are open-source, decentralized, and user-centered—like Bluesky, Mastodon, and Nostr. This shift highlights a pressing need for more trustworthy civic spaces. But civic-minded...

Mastodon monoculture problem (rys.io)

Mastodon-the-software is used by far by the most people on fedi. The biggest instance, mastodon.social, is home to over 200.000 active accounts as of this writing. This is roughly 1/10th of the whole Fediverse, on a single instance. Worse, Mastodon-the-software is often identified as the whole social network, obscuring the fact...

Toward ActivityPub 2.0 (socialhub.activitypub.rocks)

We are going to need an Activity Pub 2.0 which fixes the major pain points in the eco system. It must be backward compatible with 1.x, but will introduce new, more scalable, extensible, interoperable ways of doing things for a larger federation and ecosystem. Systems using 1.x can signal it, and those using 2.0 should accept 1.x...
