hey everyone, I got everything working on #fedi196 again and I was wondering if you could weigh in on your experience using the server
I'm really sorry its been quite unstable as of late but it really does look like the software is stabilizing now and I wanted to know what you all think, the good the bad and the ugly

I went to run an update on the instance and found that nothing needed to be updated. that marks a full day since I've needed to update the server and a full day of federation working properly. I'm quite excited that kbin is entering into a much more stable phase

just a heads up, #fedi196 is now up to date and federating properly, it's just it may need a little bit for the queues to catch up on roughly 10 hours of content
it's crazy we've had super constant growth on the instance
it seems my server can easily handle it and has been overall pretty snappy. I doubt I'll need to rescale it anytime soon, but it's nice my hosting provider makes it really easy if need be

good news! thanks to the nature of the #fediverse we can post to, comment, and subscribe to the 196 on lemmy.blahaj.zone from here on fedi196.gay. I'm pleasantly surprised at how seamless it is and I'm really happy to see the 196 community here. I don't want to fragment the community any more than it is so I would recommend posting on 196@lemmy.blahaj.zone for the rule and make sure you give it a follow 😉

it's good. we're federated so I guess that's all that matters and this instance is still pretty cool because kbin has a lot of nice features
I fixed the email verification for real this time!! the emails will probabily wind up going to your spam so make sure to check there if you make an account
I'm also going to start going through all of the accounts that were not able to verify yesterday and verify them manually

hey everyone,
if you've been keeping tabs on the internet drama you probably know about all of reddit shenanigans. when I first heard about the blackout I was really worried about loosing the 196 community and things like whenthe, r/traaa, and gay sounds shitposts so I decided to try and make an instance that could act as a central hub of sorts and try and keep these communities connected. it's really important that we bring these communities over to the fediverse if we want them to be resilient and I think this is the right step forward. I know things are still rough around the edges and there will be growing pains, but as the lorax said, "a tree falls the way it leans"
reddit and corporations will always lean to enshitification but for once we have something that leans the right way
if this is going to work, we need as many people as possible to start switching over and we are going to need your memes. lots and lots of memes. if we all get on board we can make this work
with this post I would like to officially announce fedi196.gay is up and ready for open registration
