Today I begin the physical process of moving my 96 y/o mother into a #memorycare residence, with help from #family. We’ll set up her room with the furniture basics, assemble a bed frame, etc., assess how everything fits, and adjust the plan to reality. There are a few more steps over the next week+ until we bring her to her new space and support her moving in and getting settled. #dementia#alzheimers#bittersweet So many #feels. #familymatters#multigenerational#life
The paradigm of “growth” underlies public and private pension provision: workers’ and employers’ contributions are invested in a way that grows the size of the pot so after several decades of work there is enough to fund retirement.
Is this still realistic? (It’s not moral in a world of limited resources)
Besides advocating for political representatives who pledge to work for #sustainability and #degrowth, can we band together in meaningful ways to fund alternatives to the conventional individual “defined contribution” / 401(k) pension plans?
#Multigenerational#Cohousing, where dwellings/ lifestyles can be smaller / cheaper bc much (spare rooms, tool shops, vehicles, laundry facilities, gardens, care work etc) are shared?
