Today I begin the physical process of moving my 96 y/o mother into a residence, with help from . We’ll set up her room with the furniture basics, assemble a bed frame, etc., assess how everything fits, and adjust the plan to reality. There are a few more steps over the next week+ until we bring her to her new space and support her moving in and getting settled. So many .

The paradigm of “growth” underlies public and private pension provision: workers’ and employers’ contributions are invested in a way that grows the size of the pot so after several decades of work there is enough to fund retirement.

Is this still realistic? (It’s not moral in a world of limited resources)

Besides advocating for political representatives who pledge to work for and , can we band together in meaningful ways to fund alternatives to the conventional individual “defined contribution” / 401(k) pension plans?

  • , where dwellings/ lifestyles can be smaller / cheaper bc much (spare rooms, tool shops, vehicles, laundry facilities, gardens, care work etc) are shared?
  • Cooperative allotments for fruit/veg production?
