Well DNS based blocking has its problems mainly devices bypassing your network defined DNS with some encrypted DNS(DoT,DoH) or using hardcoded custom DNS servers.

Internally these types of apps are using DNS based blocking similar to this app f-droid.org/packages/dnsfilter.android/

The way Adaway works is similar to DNS blocking, it modifies the system hosts file which is like a local DNS. I would divide ad blockers into name resolution based (Pihole, Adguard, Adaway) and client side filters (Ublock origin etc).

Some people really hate lemmy. There was another post in that subreddit with a screenshot of some csam instance with the title what is wrong with Lemmy. This is enough for people who is looking for a reason to not leave Reddit. Another talking point of these people are the political leaning of Lemmy devs. E.g. See this thread mstdn.social/

Fuck this piece of shit software. I’m so done with this. Today, there was an issue with the audio freezing while playing videos embedded in a presentation. Cant even Do the one thing it is supposed to do.

Dynamically expanding UI widgets that push other content down. Used by Google search for suggestions which always leads to misclick links. Portainer and cloudflare dashboard also does this.

Looks nice, going to install. I usually use pdftk, but sometimes it can be really tricky, especially the rotate command.

I also feel the same, Lemmy is well…,. an echo chamber supporting Lemmy . Communties I used visit are doing just fine on reddit. But I a happy with the lower numbers and better quality of discussions
