AffineConnection,

It’s blueshifted to looking green because you’re excessively speeding.

AffineConnection, (edited )

Because sometimes one has no choice, be it for your job, or hardware support, etc.

Unfortunately, there is some scientific and medical equipment that only supports Microsoft Windows (often obsolete versions, which is even worse).

AffineConnection,

Gas is mostly derived from bacteria.

Here’s what gas has to say about that: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/82/%22Finger_of_God%22_Bok_globule_in_the_Carina_Nebula.jpg

Perhaps you mean flatus.

AffineConnection,

That’s more like fish and amphibians. We do things internally.

AffineConnection,

AffineConnection,

Electronics are magic boxes of poisonous green crackers with black rectangle bugs crawling on them.

AffineConnection,

A computer is a magic box with a poisonous green cracker inside.

AffineConnection,

I got all the landscape ones correct—except for one—by applying my limited knowledge of art technique.

AffineConnection,

Crucially, we are able to determine the distance by redshift via the observations of objects with known distance (like standard candles) and their redshifts. The ΛCDM model only becomes necessary for extrapolating to redshifts for which we otherwise don’t know the distance, but this extrapolation cannot be made without the data of redshifts of known distances.

AffineConnection,

Examples would be Helium-4

The standard model predicts that hydrogen-1 is the only stable nuclide because electroweak instantons allow three baryons (such as nucleons: protons and neutrons) to decay into three antileptons (antineutrinos, positrons, antimuons, and antitauons), which imply the instability of any nuclide with a mass number of at least three; or for two baryons to decay into an antibaryon and three antileptons, which would imply that deuterium could decay into an antiproton and 3 antileptons.

This is very rarely discussed because the nuclides that can only decay through baryon anomalies would be predicted by the standard model to have ludicrously long half lives (to my memory, something roughly around 10^150 years, but I might be wrong).

Hydrogen-1 is stable in the standard model, as it lacks a mechanism for (single) proton decay.

AffineConnection,

The last paragraph is completely irrelevant, as it has nothing to do with the ozone layer. You do not want ozone in the troposphere, but you do want it in the stratosphere.

AffineConnection,

I look forward to finding out how it’s actually much worse than meets the eye. [emphasis added]

It this schadenfreude because you hate Canonical and their Snap system?

AffineConnection, (edited )

.C came first. I don’t usually use it though; I usually use .cc or .cxx, but if I’m making some tiny test source, I often use .C. I’m strongly opposed to the .cpp extension because calling C++ “CPP” leads to confusion with the preexisting (before C++) use of the initialism to refer to the C preprocessor. There’s a reason why CPPFLAGS refers to preprocessor flags and CXXFLAGS refers to C++ flags.

AffineConnection,

But then the filename wouldn’t be /^[[:alnum:]._-]*~*$/.

AffineConnection,

Maybe about 4-5 years ago, I read through the source to find obscure undocumented features of a couple system calls that allowed me to write a detailed system/process monitor utility that does things that nothing else seems to know about.

AffineConnection,

no internal monologue

I have an internal monologue of instrumental music (almost always jazz or classical music). I don’t think in words, except when planning speech or writing.

AffineConnection, (edited )

I was formally diagnosed with PDD-NOS at a very young age, which was later re-diagnosed as Asperger’s Syndrome due to technicalities during a reevaluation. I wasn’t diagnosed with ADHD (without hyperactivity) until my fifth grade teacher was very concerned about severe issues with attention and excessive daydreaming that were likely previously dismissed as relating to my Asperger’s syndrome.

AffineConnection,

The same applies to me. I have the purely inattentive variety of ADHD (sometimes called ADD).
